Let me start by saying I BURNED A FREAKING DEMON!
A FREAKING DEMON WITH MY OWN FIRE!!
MY FIRE IS HOTTER THEN HELL!!!
I WAS HIS FREAKING BEELZEBUB AND HE WAS MY BEEYATCH!!!
Ok, so let me explain. We saved the missing villagers last night from Brodkil slavers, the old doc described their cloaked leader, got back to Garnet Town, and the town decided on the Tomorrow Legion over the Coalition and the Federation, then BOOM a the nearby ley line nexus goes off and a rift forms..
We get to the nexus (minus the Mystic who stayed at Garnet Town to continue healing some of the villagers we save and the dragon who was in a sugar coma due to unhealthy eating) and there is the mystery cloaked Brodkil leader A.K.A Simon, the Federation of Magic guy. He was the one opening the rift and summoning a demon with a huge sword made of fire!
We engaged Symon. We engaged the demon.
Now you may think that a demon that holding a sword made out of fire would be fire proof himself right? Me being a Burster would be useless against him right?
YOU ARE WRONG!
While the others went for Symon, I went for the demon. My first flame bolt incinerated a chunk out of him and set him on fire. I was happy because he I saw the pain on its face!
Gogsworth and our Glitter Boy gave it a go, but their shots didn’t have the same effect as mine.
So there is another feather in my cap, I out damaged a Glitter Boy’s boom cannon!
I did feel a little unsure after my first attack as the demon came right at me and its burned bits were starting to heal instantly.
He kicked me, burned himself doing so ( I can put a fiery aura around myself), and as it was bouncing up and down on its hot foot, I let fly another bolt of flame right up between its legs.
The sight was GLORIOUS!
The fire tore up through his guts and chest, I could see the orange glow outlining its ribs underneath demonic skin. Its eyes melted and a gout of flame shot out its mouth. It bellowed in pain, then fell over, quickly burning away to ash!
I had never felt so alive! Never felt so close to my inner flame then that moment! It was a feeling of pure bliss!
I wanted to, at that very moment, set the entire world on fire in joy!
That was a feeling quickly snuffed out when I saw the robot that Symon had just summoned pointing weapons at me.
I decided I had my moment of glory was done for the time being, and it was time to remember the combat basics I learned back at Castle Refuge. Their was a nearby ruined building that I made a run for and jumped through an open window for cover. Didn’t work so hot, because the robot blew up the wall I was hiding behind and shot me with some kind of ray gun!
Its so unfair you know! I mean I am a being that can supposedly take a swim in a lava lake and come out in tact (not like I ever tried that, but I am willing to try to see if it is true), yet things like lasers hurt me!? Lasers are what, beams of really hot light?
Anyway, I am leaving this musing for a later journal entry. Maybe there is a way for a Burster to transcend our inner flame to the level of laser proof?
So yeah, I was shot, decided to tactically retreat to the other side of the ruin to shake the robot. I had planned to circle around the ruin and come up on the robots flank, but I heard one more boom cannon round whistling towards up. There was an explosion, then quite, then the call from Elija, our wilderness soldier.
“Stand down,” he said through my com, “stand down, the targets are dead! Naught is hurt! She was caught in the cannon blast, stand down!”
The robot was scrap, Symon was obliterated, and their our Crazy laid, a human hamburger but alive.
Now I am not a big fan of Naught from the beginning, but I did feel a sense of worry seeing her almost dead like that. But Elija is also a trained filed medic, and he assured us all she would live, but Brice, our Glitter Boy pilot should stay far away from her once Naught is back on her feet.
So once again we complete the mission statement, we joined the town in celebration, and the alliance with Beehan (who stayed at town during the nexus fight) was over.
Too bad though. I asked him if he wanted to “dance with fire”, but he was either back in Coalition mode or he didn’t get the innuendo.
Once Naught is well enough to travel, we are going back to Castle Refuge. Meanwhile our techno-mage Kross wishes to continue reinforcing up Garnet Town’s walls while Elija will help to train the defenders.
I guess I will keep out of the way though and not burn something.
On the road again. After re returned from Garnet town, we got a promotions, we got R’n’R, and we got paid. I am saving up my earning though for the group as we have two ATVs but Elija is wanting weapons for the empty mounts atop his vehicle.
Not like there is anything I need militarily. I mean as Burner, I don’t have to worry about ammo clips, and I think carrying grenades would be a bad idea for me.
So yeah, saving it up until the group needs it or just start re-building my savings. The one I lost back in Tolkeen. Tthe one I lost to Maxwe…
<rest of the page appears to have been burned away, the journal continues on the next page>
OK, don’t think about the past!
Almost had to start a new journal.
So back on the road heading closer to the Federation of Magic boarders. Same mission as before, “save the day”.
And just one day out, we start our job. A family of four blue skinned D-Bees chased by Coalition. Really CS, can’t go one day without your dickery!?
Elija, the newly appointed team leader in all official military manners, said we were engaging the CS and protecting the D-Bees.
I felt a little sorry when he said that and hoped none of the soldiers were Beehan. Our friends of Beehan.
So I was riding with Elija and Naught (and her sack of newly purchased grenades) in Elija’s in his vehicle, with Cogsworth and Kross in their vehicle, and Brice in his “Glit” a quarter of the mile behind.
We had two small squads of CS soldiers and 2 squads of CS Deathbots. It was a short fight.
The Deathbots are really fire proof, but I managed to only melt one with a concentrated flame bolt.
It was not as satisfying as incinerating the demon, but it worked.
Aaaannnnnddd Naught almost died…again.
Now that I think of it, every fight that Naught has been in has been a good chance of her dying. First her gun breaks, then she runs into the center of Brodkil, then she eats a boom cannon shell. Now she decided to teleport into the front of one of the Deathbot squads, toss a grenade without much effect, and gets mowed down for her troubles.
Elija said she will live…again, but she lost an eye.
Kross was speaking to the D-Bees in their own language, but I didn’t catch much of what he translated. What I heard was that they were being used as magic batteries, others of their kind came through a rift, captured and being carried off in a CS transport.
That was all I really caught.
My full attention though was on Naught’s missing eye. I had found it near where she fell. It was mangled, smoldering, and yet still carried a gleam of craziness Naught’s eyes always have.
I decided to give it a proper cremation.
